Cassandra Hite

Student and Writer

I first started my writing career as early as I can remember. Even before I could write on my own I would have my parents take my thoughts down for me. I continued to write a number of short stories and songs growing up. As I proceeded with my schooling, writing for academia was thrown into the mix. Despite beginning to primarily write in this context, I continued to pursue writing creatively throughout high school. It was a creative writing class that led me to feel like I could choose to have a career as a writer. When I started at DU, I had no idea that I would continue on the path of writing. After struggling through my first year trying to find where I fit into college, I found the writing practices minor and knew that it was perfect for me. Writing has always felt like a part of my identity, and I’m so glad to be able to tack it on to my college education and be able to label myself a “writer”.
